Throughout John Cena’s over-twenty year WWE career, the lines between work and shoot were rarely as blurred as they were with The Rock leading up to their first encounter in the main event of WrestleMania 28.
With tensions seeming quite real between the two men to viewers at home, a notorious segment from the February 27, 2012 episode of Raw would take things up a notch, when Cena would infamously draw attention to The Rock’s promo notes written on his wrist.
This would very visibly anger The Rock, and according to Cena that is one aspect of the feud he regrets.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast Cena would elaborate on the decision and the violated trust between the two legends from that point, something he would not recognise properly until the build to their rematch the following year at WrestleMania 29.
Cena said:
“It’s all in good fun and it’s all for the business, but you’re supposed to have trust with each other and I violated his trust, It’s only when we started the build-up to New York that I got to look at myself in the mirror deeper and say I was wrong.
“Not only did I hope that he would understand my perspective, but a year later I could admit that my perspective was wrong…
“We could’ve done it with everyone working together and playing nice and that was my fault.”
Despite Cena’s profound impact on the wrestling business, he would recently discuss how a current WWE star does a certain thing better than he ever did.
