Kenny Omega Teases Alliance With Former Rival AEW

AEW star Kenny Omega has teased an alliance with his former rival NJPW star Kazuchika Okada, following their tag-team match earlier this year.

The Okada-Omega rivalry that spanned from 2016 to 2018 is often regarded as one of the best feuds of the modern era, if not the entirety of wrestling history.

This is why it was such a shock when Okada was revealed to be Omega’s tag partner during January’s New Year Dash event, with the former rivals teaming together to defeat Aaron Henare & Jeff Cobb.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Omega hinted that he’d side with Okada again, noting:

“I wouldn’t be so quick to scratch his name off the list of guys I wouldn’t help. Our match together was a wild-card draft. It was a fun time. It felt to me like, ‘We had our thing. Our thing is done.’

“I’ve said it before—Okada is very sharp. He is who he is for a reason. I had a lot of fun teaming with him at New Japan Dash, so I wouldn’t strike that off the list of potential people who I wouldn’t mind having their back.

“We’re in completely separate divisions right now, I’m US champion, and he’s competing for the IWGP heavy. It’s good to let us exist in our respective worlds and be comrades for a change.”

AEW and NJPW will once again come together for a Forbidden Door crossover event on June 25, so we could see the popular stars share a ring soon.

Ahead of his cage match on the May 10 edition of Dynamite, Omega indicated that time is running out on his in-ring career.
