Kurt Angle Claims Current WWE Star Could’ve Been An Olympian

Kurt Angle has recently discussed a current WWE star, noting that the competitor could’ve made it to the Olympics before joining the company.

Kurt Angle famously was an Olympic gold medallist before joining WWE. According to Angle, his former teammate could’ve also competed at the Olympics if he had set his mind on it.

Speaking on his Kurt Angle Show podcast, the Olympian noted that Shelton Benjamin was one of the best athletes he had ever shared a ring with. revealing that they’ve actually wrestled before, Angle explained that Benjamin was an exceptional amateur competitor before signing with WWE.

Here is the full quote:

“Shelton Benjamin, without a doubt. That kid is extremely gifted. One of the best athletes I’ve ever been in the ring with. I’ve actually wrestled with him a little bit, amateur, we didn’t really go live, we drilled. He was a late bloomer. This is a kid who didn’t start amateur wrestling until his junior year in high school.

“He won State both years. Went to Minnesota, became a two-time All-American in college with just three years of experience. If he would have continued on, I think he would have become an Olympian. He was starting to mature by the time his senior year in college came around. So, I think his best years were ahead of him, but he skipped that and went straight to WWE.”

Benjamin last competed on Raw, losing to The Viking Raiders alongside Cedric Alexander. He hasn’t won a match since his Raw Tag Team Championship defence against Adam Pearce and Braun Strowman in early March.

Benjamin and Alexander have been very vocal in the aftermath of The Hurt Business’ break-up. According to a recent report, WWE might be done with these two. Read more on this story here.
