WWE SmackDown Live Results – February 12, 2019

Gauntlet – Randy Orton def. AJ Styles

And after all of that, a single RKO wins it for Orton, and he’ll enter the Chamber last on Sunday.

That was a truly great showcase for Kofi.

But I just remembered it would have been Ali.

And now I am sad.

But, I shall embrace the positivity as New Day would say, and be happy for Kofi, because that was seriously very, very good.

Gauntlet – AJ Styles def. Kofi Kingston

AJ helps Kofi, and says that he can give up if he wants to, but Kofi just gets mad and starts going off on one at AJ for suggesting he quit.

This ends up firing AJ up too, who dominates early on and gets a couple of nearfalls.

Kingston tries to fight back with some kicks, but AJ catches him and targets the left leg with submissions and kicks for the Calf Crusher submission hold.

Styles lands a snap suplex for a nearfall. Kofi goes for a few rollups, before a GNARLY backbreaker from AJ halts his momentum.

Both men are on the apron, and Kofi goes for a couple of running knees, but AJ dodges and the Ghanaian absolutely smashes into the cornerpost, but he manages to get back in the ring at the ref’s nine-count.

AJ goes for a frankensteiner off the top, but Kofi blocks, and lands a splash to the back for a nearfall. He goes for an SOS but Styles locks in the Calf Crusher for the win.

The other New Day members run to the ring to carry Kofi to the back who gets a great and deserved ovation.

Gauntlet – Kofi Kingston def. Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe stretching Kofi out early on in the exchange between these two, and as Kofi tries to escape he absolute CLOBBERS him with a clothesline for a nearfall.

Joe continues to dominate until Kingston manages to propel himself over the top rope with a crossbody. Joe comes in though with another massive clothesline, and although Graves screaming about Kofi kicking out at one, it was two-count. They even showed the replay and Corey still said he kicked out at one.

A senton from Joe scores another nearfall and he’s getting increasingly frustrated with Kofi, who’s approaching 50 minutes in the match at this point.

Kofi gets knocked off the top rope to the outside but still breaks the count, but Joe immediately takes advantage before Kingston fights back with a dropkick once again.

Kingston goes for a jumping clothesline, but Joe counters it into a Coquina. Before it can be properly locked in, Kingston uses the ropes to shift his weight and actually pins Joe.

After the bout is over, Joe absolutely destroys Kingston until the next man, AJ Styles comes out and chases him away.

Possibility here that maybe this is their way of not putting Kofi in the Chamber and going with one of the other two, blaming Joe for it. Maybe not though.

This has been absolutely superb. Up the Kofi.

Gauntlet – Kofi Kingston def. Jeff Hardy

We come back from commercials with Kingston taking on Jeff Hardy. Kofi attempts a dive on the outside, but Jeff dodges it. He gets Kofi back in the ring for a Swanton but he rolls out the way.

The two both climb onto the ropes in the corner, with Jeff looking for a superplex. Kofi blocks it and knocks the former WWE Champion down, before landing a crossbody. Jeff manages to roll it through.

Hardy goes for a Twist of Fate, but Kingston turns it into an SOS to get the pin.

The good news for Kofi is this has been great. The bad news is… Samoa Joe is on his way next.

Gauntlet – Kofi Kingston def. Daniel Bryan

The match starts off with Bryan playing the evasion gave and trying to avoid taking any offense in order to preserve as much energy and health as possible.

The crowd gets behind Kofi who works over Bryan’s arm, which is interesting as it’s what we usually see Bryan do, but not Kofi who usually just jumps around like a maniac.

Bryan uses his legs to take down Kofi, and locks the Ghanaian in a surfboard stretch. Kingston gets out and utilizes that “controlled frenzy” that Cole used to love talking about every single Kofi match. He shoves Bryan out the ring before flying out of the ring onto him as we go to commercials.

We come back with Bryan firmly on top. Kofi tries to turn the tables but Bryan targets the mid section with some kicks. He hangs Kofi on the top rope before landing a knee drop from the top onto the back of Kofi’s neck for a great nearfall.

Bryan goes for the diving headbutt but Kofi rolls out the way, and launches a comeback hitting the Boom Drop on the champ, who gets out at two.

The veteran of New Day lands a springboard crossbody for a nearfall, but a drop toe hold from Bryan turns the bout in his favor. He hits a running dropkick on Kofi in the ‘tree of woe’ for another two-count.

We go to commercials after a back suplex attempt from Bryan goes wrong as Kofi lands right on top of his face.

We come back from commercials with both men trying quick pinfalls as Bryan locks in the LeBell lock submission hold as this bout has gone over 20 minutes.

Kingston gets to the rope to break the submission, before Bryan knocks him out the ring and lands a flying knee off the apron. He slides Kofi back in the ring for a diving headbutt, but Kingston recovers and lands a dropkick.

Rowan takes Kofi down behind the referee’s back, so E and Woods take him out. The ref throws them out of ringside. Again, Rowan gets involved and chucks Kingston over the barricade, so the ref throws him out too.

Bryan gets Kofi back in the ring, goes for the running knee, but Kofi counters it with a Truble in Paradise. Boss, that.

I always feel like I need to reiterate… I really really like Kofi, and this was a great showcase for him… I just can’t help thinking I’d prefer it to have gone to either Woods or Big E. Now, enough moaning, that was great.

Which New Day Member Enters The Chamber?

Daniel Bryan and his pal Rowan come out for the gauntlet match, and Bryan’s got an ace new titantron, which I just had to mention.

He cuts a promo calling everyone fickle, and says he doesn’t want to be in the Elimination Chamber as it will probably shorten his career. He says he has to sacrifice himself for the greater good, before being cut off by New Day.

Which member will it be???????

It’s… Kofi. The most underwhelming choice. Of course it is. Don’t get me wrong, he is absolutely excellent, but the other two are just… fresher.

There’s always a chance they could change it for the Chamber, but it will be Kofi vs Bryan starting off tonight’s gauntlet.

McMiz TV With The Usos

SmackDown Tag Team Champions Shane McMahon and The Miz head to the ring next to host McMiz TV with their Elimination Chamber challengers the Usos.

This segment is either going to be amazing or utterly terrible.

After a bit of self-promotion from Miz, Shane welcomes Jimmy and Jey to the ring. He asks them to sit down, but they say they’d rather stand up.

They accuse Shane and Miz of trying to be the Usos, but Shane reaffirms that they are the best tag team in the world. Jimmy and Jey give them the “tag team test”. They ask each other a few questions about how well they know each other.

Miz and Shane do the same, but with Miz blatantly giving Shane the answers (they get a sports team pop). Miz says his favorite food is “Quiche”, leading to the Usos telling them not to talk about their dad “Rikishi”.

Miz mentions Mandy Rose, which is where things get a bit heated. They slap Miz’ mic away from him. They say Shane and Miz calling themselves the best tag team in the world is disrespectful, before Shane tells them the titles are “the only thing that’s real, Uce”.

The twins then hit dual superkicks on their Chamber opponents to close the segment.

Mustafa Ali Pulled From Elimination Chamber

We get a selfie promo from Mustafa Ali who announces that WWE has pulled him from the WWE Championship Chamber match on Sunday due to injuries, confirming recent reports.

He will be replaced by a member of New Day.

Carmella & Naomi def. IIconics, Rose & Deville

Peyton Royce starts the match immediately tags out YES SHE’S USING LOGIC, GET IN THERE.

I bet it doesn’t last. (It did, surprisingly).

Mandy and Carmella start thing off, with Deville tagging in early as she and Rose hit a double team move for a nearfall. Naomi is in shows off her athleticism. She does the splits on top of Deville for a nearfall.

Carmella tags in and immediately gets decked by Deville. She escapes a headlock and does a moonwalk, before Naomi tags in.

Deville tries to tag out to the IIconics. but like people with brains (unlike the three Raw teams last night), they step off the apron so they can’t lose.

We go to commercials with a crossbody to Mandy on the outside from Naomi.

Carmella and Sonya are legal when we come back, and immediately down each other. Sonya looks for a tag to Mandy, who knocks Naomi off the opposite corner, before dragging Sonya over so she can tag in.

Naomi recovers and does get the tag though, and hits a disaster kick to Mandy. Carmella superkicks Deville off the apron, before Naomi lands a split-legged moonsault on Mandy for the win.

I eat my words, the IIconics did actually use logic there and didn’t tag themselves in. They ambush both other teams after the match is over.

We start the Chamber match on Sunday with Deville and Rose vs. Banks and Bayley.

Charlotte Flair Absolutely Milks It

SmackDown opens with a replay of last night’s shenanigans that resulted in Becky Lynch being replaced at WrestleMania 35 by Charlotte Flair, before the ‘Queen’ herself enters the ring.

She heels it up massively and milks the boos and “Becky!” chants, going on to call Lynch a “flash in the pan”.

She mocks what Becky did last week storming through the crowd, but of course the ‘Man’ was nowhere to be seen tonight due to her 60-day suspension.

I know we all hate that Charlotte has replaced Becky, but it is impossible to deny that Charlotte is a fantastic heel. Excellent promo work last week, and even better this week.

Opening the show, we’ve basically got a repeat of last night’s match on Raw, in which the three teams in the Women’s Tag Title Chamber match will compete in a three-way, with the losing team having to start the Chamber on Sunday.

This concept makes no sense. Surely the logic is just don’t tag into the match, no?

This SHOULD be an excellent show. The final episode of SmackDown Live before this Sunday’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view is upon us, and one match in particular is rather salivating.

I say ‘one match in particular’, it’s actually the only match confirmed for the show thus far. The six men that will compete in the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match this Sunday will compete in a gauntlet match, with the eventual winner earning the right to be the sixth man to be released into the Chamber.

Those six men are, of course, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, Mustafa Ali, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, and WWE Champion Daniel Bryan.

Now, there are question marks over the Elimination Chamber status of one of these men, that being Mustafa Ali. It’s been reported over the past few days that Ali has been working through several injuries, but a concussion suffered at a house show this weekend means he’s likely going to be pulled from the match.

That is a massive shame for Ali who really has burst into the main event scene since joining SmackDown from 205 Live just a couple of months ago, but it does add an element of intrigue as to who could replace him.

Could it be a member of New Day? Cesaro has recently talked about wanting a singles push. And there are also reports of a certain SmackDown star scheduled to return from injury, so there are plenty of interesting options. Watch it be Primo Colon.

I would have used Shane McMahon for that joke, but he’s already got a match on Sunday. Mind you, I’m sure he wouldn’t let that get in the way.

Anyway, Shane and Miz will defend their SmackDown Tag Titles against the Usos at the Chamber, and will host a ‘McMiz TV’ segment with Jimmy and Jey this week. It has the potential to be great. It also has the potential to be an absolute nightmare.

Nothing else has been formally announced for the show, but we do have the ongoing feud between Andrade and Rey Mysterio that might pop up somewhere (I’m hoping we get a match at the pay-per-view), and also some fallout from Vince’s announcement last night that Charlotte Flair will replace Becky Lynch in facing Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania.
