The wrestling world was shocked last night after WCW icon and WWE Hall of Famer Sting made a shock appearance on the ‘Winter is Coming’ special episode of AEW Dynamite to save Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin.
The debut was later followed up by a press release from AEW which confirmed that Sting had signed a full-time multi-year deal with the promotion. You can read that press release by clicking here.
We know have a rough idea about how AEW is going to use Sting, as Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Sting will be a regular on Dynamite every week, not working a typical WWE legends schedule.
Meltzer noted that AEW wanted to sign “a star from the old generation of TNT as a regular”, with the idea being that a signing of this calibre could help bring back some lapsed fans who have stopped watching wrestling.
Speaking of Sting, it has been reported that while some were aware, several people within AEW didn’t know that Sting would be debuting for the promotion on last night’s show. You can read more about that report by clicking here.
