The culmination of the Intercontinental Championship tournament will be happening in the near future on SmackDown. Fightful Select (subscription required) is reporting that the match has been filmed at the most recent SmackDown tapings.
It was not confirmed who was in the finals in the report. Jeff Hardy is scheduled to take on Daniel Bryan on tonight’s show, while AJ Styles is set to face Elias. Both of these matches will air on tonight’s episode of the show. The winners of those two matches will have been the ones who competed in the finals at the tapings.
It was also mentioned in the report that the final match was “unbelievable”. The standing crowd of NXT performers were reportedly tired but legitimately pumped up by the quality of the match.
This Intercontinental Championship tournament was created because Sami Zayn was stripped of the title. Zayn had been champion since Elimination Chamber but stopped appearing on WWE television shortly after beating Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 36.
