Mercedes Mone has explained what the Sasha Banks character means to her, almost two years on from her last use of it in WWE.
With WWE owning the rights to the Sasha Banks name, the six-time former WWE Women’s Champion was forced to begin anew under the new name of Mercedes Mone.
While many fans still associate her with her WWE name, Mone’s success outside of the company is helping change that, with an IWGP Women’s Title reign under her belt, as well as more potential championships perhaps awaiting her in AEW – if she does in fact make her debut for the company.
Despite carving out a new legacy as Mercedes Mone, the 32-year-old recognises the importance of her time as Sasha Banks, and recently got a chance to explain what the character means to her now.
Speaking on the Kick Rocks podcast, Mone explained:
“A legend. An icon. A powerhouse. Someone who stands up for what she believes in. Is a legit boss. They got that trademark for a good reason.
“I played that role really good. A legit boss, inside and outside the ring, and will lay it all on the line. She has a heart full of gold.
“Sasha Banks, what a career. What an amazing career. The thing about that, it makes me even more excited to see what Mercedes Mone can do.”
Mone is widely expected to make her long-awaited debut for All Elite Wrestling at this Wednesday’s Big Business show (March 13).
Despite that however, Mone has turned heads by stating that she will return to WWE in the future.
