More details of Jon Moxley’s new contract with AEW have been revealed after it was confirmed he’s signed through to 2027.
The press release announcement of Moxley’s re-signing stated that he would be working “exclusively” for AEW and its international partners, namely NJPW.
That announcement was made on October 7, the day before Moxley was set to defend the GCW World Championship against Nick Gage in a match that, if Gage lost, he’d have to retire.
According to Fightful Select, AEW “didn’t want” Moxley to work the match with Gage for GCW, but Moxley “insisted” on finishing his run with the promotion.
As of now, Moxley doesn’t have any future GCW dates scheduled.
The report also adds that GCW reps claimed they had “no say” on how the match would finish, which was with members of AEW’s faction ‘The Firm’ costing Moxley the match and the title.
People that Fightful spoke to do believe Moxley has the ability to work independent shows under his new deal, but it will be on a “surprise basis” when he does.
Fightful had not received any confirmation from AEW officials about the status of Jon Moxley and GCW.
