A total of nine matches have now been announced for tonight’s May 9, 2023 episode of WWE NXT on the USA Network.
Some matches had already been announced but the card includes several new ones as well.
First is Bron Breakker vs Trick Williams which was set up last week, and of course is part of the build to Breakker vs Carmelo Hayes at NXT Battleground on May 27.
The NXT Tag Team Championship will be on the line as Wolfgang and Mark Coffey of Gallus defend against Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid of Schism.
Fowler and Reid requested their releases from WWE last month, but upon that request being denied, tweeted their intentions to leave when their contracts are up in October.
Another match for tonight that’s been brewing for a couple of weeks now is Ilja Dragunov vs Dijak.
Two matches in the NXT Women’s Championship tournament have been announced for tonight.
The first of those is Gigi Dolin vs Tiffany Stratton, and the other is Kiana James vs Lyra Valkyria – that’s one match from each side of the bracket, not the same side.
You can see the full bracket at this link.
Newly announced is what looks to be a ‘friendly competition’ style tag match with Hank Walker and Tank Ledger against the reunited Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen.
There’s also a reverse of last night’s opening match, with Tyler Bate having Wes Lee in his corner against Charlie Dempsey with Drew Gulak in his.
The expectation based on last week would be Lee vs Bate for the North American Championship at Battleground.
In addition to all of that, two further singles matches set for NXT tonight are Eddy Thorpe vs Damon Kemp, and Duke Hudson vs Javier Bernal.
Not a match, but a segment that’s been announced is the second edition of Nathan Frazer’s Hard Hitting Home Truths.
We’ll keep you posted with all the news heading into and coming out of tonight’s show.
