CM Punk won the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley in the main event of the AEW All Out pay-per-view, before controversy kicked off at the post-show media scrum.
The backstage fight between Punk, Ace Steel and the Elite led to both the AEW Trios Championship and the AEW World Championship being vacated, with the vacant World title being put on the line in a ‘Tournament of Champions’.
The final of the tournament took place in the main event of tonight’s AEW Grand Slam special episode of Dynamite, pitting Blackpool Combat Club members Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson against each other, with MJF watching the match in the stands with his poker chip.
In the end, Jon Moxley choked out Danielson to secure the win, capturing the AEW World Championship for the third time.
