New Japan Cup Night 4: End Of Round 1

SANADA vs. Chuckie T

SANADA defeated Chuckie T in a fine 21:27 outing which felt like Okada vs Omega after sitting through the previous bore. Featuring more highlights than its predecessor, the pair ended the first round on a high. The opening chain reversal sequence was crisp, Milano TA giving SANADA advice on how to apply the Paradise Lock was a scream, and the near falls weren’t half bad either. Chuckie assumed the role of the underdog – someone has to be – like others in his position over recent nights made us believe that his triumph may not be as farfetched as most believed. The amount of punishment he absorbed was commendable, even more so when fought back with lariats, a Falcon Arrow, and a Figure Four Leg Lock which SANADA sold well.

Counter after counter saw the pair work towards a very good table spot – Chuckie took the bump – followed by a double reversal of Skull End, the second time with Sole Food. Very well paced and executed, the pair managed to hold the audience’s attention until the very end which was a commendable combustion of reversals, ending with a SANADA victory following a moonsault. The result was as expected; no one anticipated a Chuckie victory even though it was heavily teased.
