Raw Star Addresses Criticisms Of WWE Character WWE

Nikki Cross has addressed criticism surrounding her previous ‘Nikki ASH’ gimmick, following the return of her old character.

In June 2021, Nikki debuted a new character with superhero-esque gear, named Nikki ASH. The ‘A.S.H’ stood for ‘Almost A Superhero’, with her character being more comical than her previous Nikki Cross gimmick.

Despite some fans thinking that her gimmick was too childish, Nikki experienced a considerable amount of success as the character, notably winning the 2021 Money in the Bank match, then the Raw Women’s Title on the next edition of Raw.

On Twitter, artist Rob Downie revealed that he personally faced backlash from wrestling fans after helping Nikki pitch her ‘ASH’ character.

Nikki shared his post, noting that it always warmed her heart to see young fans who enjoyed the character.

Discussing the upsides to her run as ‘Almost A Superhero’, Nikki wrote:

“They might not have liked it, but I loved my MITB Win, my Raw Women’s Championship run and history making 3 time Tag Team Championships reign (1st woman to do so) and multiple wins as 24/7 champ.

“I had convos with kids who adored it, dressed up like me and it warmed my heart 😘”

Nikki returned with her ‘Cross’ character on the October 24 edition of Raw. While not officially joining the team, Cross has aligned herself with Damage CTRL in recent weeks.

At Survivor Series, Cross, Bayley, Dakota Kai, IYO SKY & Rhea Ripley will battle Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Mia Yim, and a fifth competitor to be announced in a WarGames match.
