Over 80,000 people have been reportedly been diagnosed with Coronavirus across the world, with just under 3,000 of those people unfortunately passing away due to the virus.
Just last week, Japanese promotion STARDOM confirmed that they had canceled nearly all of their upcoming shows until the middle of March due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The show that is going ahead will be taped at an empty arena.
Now, NJPW has announced that all of their shows until March 15 have been canceled due to fears of Coronavirus. This comes following recommendations from the Japanese Ministry Of Health.
Yesterday NJPW announced the brackets for the New Japan Cup. However, the tournament has been placed in jeopardy with all first-round matches and several second-round bouts now being canceled.
NJPW issued the following statement regarding the cancellation of shows”
“In light of recommendations made on February 26 by the Japanese Ministry of Health connected to the new Coronavirus COVID-19, New Japan Pro-Wrestling has arrived at the decision to cancel all live events scheduled between Sunday March 1 and Sunday March 15.
“Further announcements will be made at a later date. All ticket holders will be refunded. Please check njpw1972.com and social media in the coming days for details on the refund procedure.
“NJPW has reached this difficult decision after careful consideration. Ultimately, the health and safety of our fans, staff and wrestlers is our highest concern. We remain deeply appreciative of your support of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.”
