In their first live broadcast since the G1 Climax Finals, New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi will team up to face Will Ospreay and Tomohiro Ishii in the main event of Road to Destruction Night Two.
This will be the first live broadcast from New Japan following the conclusion of the G1 Climax tournament, which saw Hiroshi Tanahashi defeat Kota Ibushi in the finals. The main event will also be the first time since their B Block final match that viewers can see Omega and Ibushi team up. The Golden Lovers will attempt continue their impressive run since their reformation in January by defeating Ishii and Ospreay. A similar match took place on Night One of the tour when Omega and Ibushi teamed with Chase Owens to take on Ishii, Ospreay and Beretta.
Tomohiro Ishii and Kenny Omega will share the ring for the second time since Ishii dealt Omega his first loss in the G1 Climax. Ishii will face Omega for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at the first of three “Destruction” shows, Destruction in Hiroshima. This will be Ishii’s second ever match for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship with his only other shot being his match against then-champion Tetsuya Naito at Wrestling Dontaku in 2016.
The following two “Destruction” shows, Destruction in Beppu and Destruction in Kobe, will be feature main events of Tetsuya Naito vs. Minoru Suzuki and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kazuchika Okada for the Tokyo Dome IWGP Heavyweight Championship challenge rights certificate.
Road to Destruction Night Two will be airing live Friday morning at 5:30 EDT on New Japan World.
