One of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s biggest stars, Tomohiro Ishii, has been announced for Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor at UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on Saturday, April 7.
Supercard of Honor, which takes place the night before WrestleMania, is traditionally an event where ROH try to bring in the biggest names they can in order to compete with WWE’s biggest night of the year.
And it looks like they’re pumping talent into this year’s show, with Ishii AKA ‘The Stone Pitbull’ the latest name added to the list.
Ishii made history in 2016 when he stunned ROH fans watching that year’s Honor Rising Tour on New Japan World when he defeated Roderick Strong to become the Ring of Honor World Television Champion.
Ishii has dominated the NEVER Openweight Championship scene in New Japan, holding the record for most championship wins and most time as champion. His explosive style also led to brilliant confrontations with Keith Lee, Kenny Omega and Tetsuya Naito in 2017.
It has not yet been announced who Ishii will face at the event, but speculation is growing that it could be one of ROH’s own big hitting stars, such as Punishment Martinez, Beer City Bruiser, Jay Briscoe, or Shane Taylor.
Ishii joins fellow New Japan Stars Kota Ibushi and Hiroshi Tanahashi, who have already been announced for the event.
Also on the card is a dream bout between Cody (Rhodes) and Kenny Omega, which is sure to be a great match between two of the world’s most popular wrestlers.
ROH World Champion Dalton Castle and joint six-man-tag and tag-team champions The Young Bucks have also been announced for the April 7 supershow.
