NJPW Star To Challenge For Pro Wrestling NOAH Tag Team Championship NJPW

A NJPW star is set to challenge for Pro Wrestling NOAH’s GHC Tag Team Championship.

On the November 23 Pro Wrestling NOAH show from Tokyo, Naomichi Marufuji issued a challenge to current GHC Tag Team Champions Takashi Sugiura & Satoshi Kojima.

Marufuji revealed that he would be teaming with former tag team partner and NJPW star KENTA for the January 1 show. This will mark the first time Marufuji and KENTA have teamed together since May 2014.

The pair were former GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and were voted Tag Team of the Year by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter in 2003 and 2004. The two men also had a rivalry during KENTA’s time in Pro Wrestling NOAH.

KENTA has been on the NJPW roster since 2019 and is a member of The Bullet Club. The New Japan star is also a former IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion.

The GHC Tag Team Championship match will take place on the same event as WWE’s Shinsuke Nakamura facing The Great Muta in his final singles bout.

The lineup for NOAH The New Year 2023 is as follows:

GHC Tag Team Champions Takashi Sugiura & Satoshi Kojima defend against KENTA & Naomichi Marufuji

GHC Heavyweight Champion Kaito Kiyomiya defends against Kenoh

The Great Muta vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
