Despite it being Christmas Day, WWE decided to put on an episode of NXT on the USA Network on Wednesday night. The matches that were shown on the broadcast were pre-taped at various different points over the last month.
The show featured the in-ring debuts of Shotzi Blackheart and Austin Theory, both of whom have signed with WWE in recent months.
NXT will likely be very happy with the viewership number the show brought in. Despite taking place on Christmas Day, NXT brought in 831,000 viewers on Wednesday night.
This week’s show brought in 36,000 more viewers than last week’s, which drew 795,000.
The viewership numbers are great for a pre-taped holiday show, but was likely helped massively by the fact that AEW opted not to put on a show this week.
AEW has stacked next week’s New Year’s Day episode of Dynamite, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them outdraw NXT in the first ratings battle of 2020.
