The reason Karrion Kross was originally planned to lose to Jeff Hardy on this past Monday’s Raw was reportedly to introduce Scarlett.
Hardy had beaten Kross the week prior in the NXT Champion’s Raw debut, but tested positive for COVID-19 and the planned rematch was cancelled, with Kross instead getting a win over Keith Lee.
Andrew Zarian reported on the Mat Men podcast that Kross was initially going to lose to Jeff Hardy, with the idea being that he’d keep losing until Scarlett would soon come in and then he’d start winning.
Zarian said:
“Karrion Kross was supposed to lose again to Jeff Hardy in the rematch and then finally go berzerk. I’m not 100% on this but I was told that the plan was that Karrion Kross keeps losing until Scarlett shows up and that’s gonna bring him back on track because she is able to unleash the warrior, whatever they’’re calling him, the gladiator in him.
“When I spoke to somebody over there they were like, ‘Yeah I don’t understand why people are freaking out on the internet, it’s leading to something. Why don’t people understand, we’re telling a story, the match doesn’t matter, the story matters’.”
It’ll be interesting to see how this develops because, now that Kross has won a match, the idea that he can’t win without Scarlett seems like it would be a bit pointless and would make Keith Lee look like an absolute buffoon.
At least they had a plan, but whether it was a good one is up for debate. Kross said in a promo on WWE.com that he’s not finished with Jeff Hardy, so it seems we will be getting the rematch when Hardy can come back.
In addition to all of this, Kross is set to defend the NXT Title against Samoa Joe at TakeOver on August 22.
