Internal Plans For WWE Return Of Popular Character Revealed

The internal plans for the WWE return of a popular character has been revealed.

In December, Wrestlingnews.co reported that the original WWE Royal Rumble plans called for Edge to face Finn Balor at the event to further The Judgment Day vs. Edge feud that has been going on for nearly a year. The match was originally set up to be a Hell In A Cell match.

However, Edge’s filming schedule prevented this from happening and the program ended up being nixed.

Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update on the internal plans for the match, noting that not only was the bout scheduled to be a Hell In A Cell match, but it was slated to be the return of “The Demon” Finn Balor.

Balor hasn’t used the persona since his loss to WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules 2021.

The report notes that those Fightful spoke to indicated that they felt as if the Demon persona didn’t fit during the current iteration of The Judgment Day, and were against it in this situation. Meanwhile, other sources felt that the match needed the extra buzz of “The Demon” returning.

At WWE Elimination Chamber, Edge and Beth Phoenix defeated Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley in a mixed tag team bout. It remains to be seen if the feud will continue on the road to WrestleMania 39.
