All Elite Wrestling (AEW) announced earlier this week that NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal will be making his debut for the promotion on the March 3 Dynamite when he teams with Jade Cargill to take on the duo of Red Velvet and Cody Rhodes.
Fans were left somewhat surprised by the announcement, with many expecting the match between Cody Rhodes and Shaquille O’Neal to take place at AEW Revolution, which will be broadcast just four days after the March 3 episode of Dynamite.
However, Dave Meltzer discussed on Wrestling Observer Radio that Shaquille O’Neal will be at the NBA All-Star game on March 7, meaning he won’t be able to be at AEW Revolution, which is why the match is taking place a few days prior:
“March 7th is the All-Star game, so he couldn’t do the pay-per-view because it’s the same day as the All-Star game, so it’s gonna be on Dynamite. If nothing else one would think this would draw a good television rating.”
