A recent New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) match was awarded a five star rating by Dave Meltzer in this week’s Wrestling Observer newsletter.
The main event of the NJPW Wrestle Grand Slam show saw IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi defeat Hiroshi Tanahashi to retain his championship in an incredible bout.
Meltzer awarded a five star rating to the match in this week’s Observer. This marks the fifth time in 2021 that Takagi has earned the rating. This is Tanahashi’s second five star match of the year, with the first also coming against Shingo back at the NJPW New Beginning in Nagoya show on January 30.
Hiroshi Tanahashi recently made an appearance on AEW Dynamite, announcing he would challenge Lance Archer for the IWGP United States Championship.
There was also heavy speculation that a Jon Moxley promo later in the show was teasing a match between Moxley and Tanahashi for the AEW All Out event.
