A new report has revealed that Pat McAfee’s Royal Rumble return was a legitimate surprise to all those involved.
At WWE Royal Rumble, the show opened with a surprise as Pat McAfee returned to the commentary table to join Michael Cole and Corey Graves on the call for the event.
Cole expressed his shock to see his friend and broadcast colleague, while Graves also acted surprise and comedically disapproved of the former NFL player joining the commentary team.
Per PWInsider, McAfee’s return was a legitimate surprise to just about everyone in the company.
The return was kept very close to the vest in order to prevent it from leaking out. It was noted that not even the majority of WWE’s production team were clued in before McAfee made his way to the ring.
This explained why there was a quick scramble to grab an additional chair and headset at the commentary table for McAfee, so he could join Cole and Graves on the call for the show.
The report also notes that Michael Cole and Corey Graves’ reactions were legit as the duo were not clued in before Pat McAfee made his way to the ring.
There is no word yet whether McAfee’s return will lead to him being back on SmackDown weekly.
