Last night on Friday Night Smackdown, Triple H and Shawn Michaels led an NXT invasion. Tommaso Ciampa, Shayna Baszler, Matt Riddle and Adam Cole were just a few of the NXT Superstars who appeared on the show.
At the end of the show, Triple H stepped into the ring with the majority of the NXT roster and declared war on both Raw and Smackdown for the Survivor Series pay-per-view later this month.
This was not originally the intended direction for the show. WWE’s hand was forced as the majority of the main roster was left stranded in Saudi Arabia.
Taking this into account, Dave Meltzer is reporting that NXT boss Triple H was the “key driver” of yesterday’s fantastic show.
Although I'm sure most people can figure this, the key driver of Smackdown was Levesque, aside from the opening segment.

Despite this, Meltzer notes that this was still a Vince McMahon show, with Triple H just presenting the idea of an NXT invasion to his father-in-law.
It was a Vince show. Levesque just came up with the strategy Vince approved of. Just like every week. It is always a Vince show, the good weeks and the bad weeks. https://t.co/hBgjUzvE7c

This proves that when their backs are against the wall, WWE often pulls off an exceptional episode of TV. Last night’s NXT will likely go down as one of the most significant and memorable in history.
