Here’s what WWE reportedly planned to do with Ring of Honor (ROH) in 2018, after talks about potentially acquiring the promotion.
Following reports that Triple H wanted WWE to buy ROH in 2018, the Dave Meltzer reported that WWE did indeed have talks with ROH management about a potential acquisition in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Per the report, the idea was that WWE would shut ROH down, essentially just purchasing the tape library, which had early matches of a number of top WWE stars.
The potential plan was for ROH’s content library to be used on the WWE Network, and for WWE projects, including documentaries, with the actual promotion being shut down to eliminate NXT’s competition.
On Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite, Tony Khan revealed that he’s the new owner of ROH. Following the announcement, reports noted that WWE had talks about buying ROH in December 2021, but ultimately left without a deal.
An update on Khan’s plans for ROH has emerged, which you can check out at this link.
