On this week’s rather bonkers episode of Monday Night Raw, we saw the return of Shane McMahon, who hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since October 2019. He returned to introduce Raw Underground.
The Raw Underground concept has been met with mixed reviews online. While some think that WWE should be applauded for trying something new, others think this is another rushed idea to try and boost falling ratings.
One thing that was universally agreed upon, however, was that there was no need for the inclusion of the dancing girls that we saw during the segments. It didn’t feel appropriate in the current 2020 climate.
However, it has been speculated that last month’s WWE casting call for female talent could be for the position of Raw Underground dancers, although this was just speculation.
On Fightful Select (subscription required), Sean Ross Sapp is reporting that WWE sent out a casting call, looking for female talent. The specific role wasn’t clear, but it was speculated to be for Raw Underground:
” WWE sent a talent casting call out for females to several talent agencies in July. We weren’t told if the casting call was for extras, wrestlers, or personalities, but WWE has resumed signing talent after the releases. The irony of the casting call was, it ended up getting sent to multiple women who had left WWE in the past few years because they’re represented by the agencies. We’re told it was likely for the Raw Underground girls that aired on Monday”.
Interestingly, if WWE sent out the casting call looking for female last month, it would imply that the Raw Underground concept wasn’t a last-minute rushed decision, as many people have speculated it to be.
