Last week on Friday Night SmackDown, we saw Gran Metalik challenge AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Championship in what was a fun, albeit one-sided encounter.
Fans inside the WWE bubble may wonder why so many people were happy to see Metalik get this opportunity, but prior to joining WWE in 2016, Metalik was one of the best luchadors in Mexico.
According to Ringside News, who have been on the money with some of their reports in recent months, Metalik got the Intercontinental Championship shot because of something Dave Meltzer said.
The site is reporting that Bruce Prichard was influenced into booking the match because of the praise that Dave Meltzer had for the Lucha House Party member on one of this shows:
“Ringside News has learned that Gran Metalik was placed in that match because of what Bruce Prichard heard from Dave Meltzer. A writer with knowledge of the situation informed us that Prichard heard Meltzer thinks that Gran Metalik is “the best luchador and one of the best workers in WWE.
“The way it was explained to us, the pull to have Gran Metalik in the IC Title match was because Prichard “tried to appease the sheet readers by putting him in the match with AJ.” It was also said that WWE “tried to end the discussion” by beating Gran Metalik.”
It was also reported that former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan was behind the SmackDown pushes of the likes of Drew Gulak, Shorty G and even Gran Metalik. You can read more about that by clicking here.
