A few weeks ago on Friday Night SmackDown, it was announced that former WWE Champion Kofi Kingston would be out of action for six weeks with an injury.
As such, Kingston’s New Day stablemate Big E was set to go on a singles run, something that fans have been clamouring for for several years now.
In the latest Rumor Roundup from Cageside Seats, the site notes that we could be seeing Big E challenge for singles gold on SmackDown before too long:
“There’s been a lot of talk of Big E wrestling for a title sooner rather than later, likely AJ Styles for the Intercontinental championship.”
It was originally reported several weeks ago that Matt Riddle would be challenging AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.
However, it seems like Matt Riddle is heading for a singles match with King Corbin. If that’s the case, then a match between Big E and AJ Styles might just be on the cards for the upcoming show.
