AEW star Samoa Joe has recalled his time as a WWE commentator, addressing the possibility of him joining an AEW announce team.
Samoa Joe became a commentator for the Raw brand while he was out of action in 2019.
He was replaced by Corey Graves in April 2021, ahead of his first WWE release a few days later.
Speaking on Under The Ring, Samoa Joe admitted that joining the commentary team was a learning curve.
Noting that he enjoyed the opportunity, Joe said:
“I am not a traditionally trained broadcaster, so it was just a lot of listening, on-the-job training, kind of figuring out the lay of the land and how things go.
“You don’t get much time to do that, especially in WWE.
“But luckily we had that opportunity and it was fun, it was fun while I did it.
“To be able to be part of the storytelling for a lot of your contemporaries, who you respect greatly and you want to see them do well. It was a really fun opportunity and I enjoyed it.”
When asked about a potential AEW commentary role, Samoa Joe stated that he doesn’t know what the future has in store for him:
“I’ve stopped trying to predict my future as it’s gone so chaotic and crazy.
“I am just kind of riding the wave.”
Samoa Joe is currently the ROH TV Champion, most recently defending his gold against Dalton Castle at the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event.
