Sasha Banks Reveals Which Rivalry Inspired Her Feud With Bayley

It took many years to finally get there on the main roster, but Sasha Banks and Bayley have had their match. Two of them, in fact. The two clashed at Hell in a Cell and again recently on SmackDown, producing two good matches.

Now, Sasha Banks has opened up about the rivalry she was inspired by for this rivalry. She names the feud between Trish Stratus and Mickie James as her inspiration for a long-term rivalry. Here is the quote from her interview with Digital Spy:

“I got really inspired from Trish Stratus and Mickie James – they had a year-long storyline when I was watching as a teenager. That’s what I wanted growing up, I wanted a year-long storyline where you just were on the ride the whole time. So for us, it’s kind of like a revamp of that.

But it’s really cool to see just the investment and time WWE has given to, not only myself and Bayley, but all of the women in WWE. It’s just been non-stop of this incredible momentum of women just taking over the company.”

Trish Stratus and Mickie James had a very memorable rivalry from 2005-2006. James was obsessed with Stratus, eventually culminating with their match at WrestleMania 22. In many ways this was the final meaningful women’s match at WrestleMania until Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Becky Lynch took the stage at WrestleMania 32 ten years later.
