It has emerged that recent plans for a title change in WWE had to be changed due to an absence from the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.
As previously covered, Keith Lee was pulled from the show for health reasons and has not been cleared to return as of yet.
Fightful Select also reported that WWE had discussed plans for Lee to win the three-way and become the new United States Champion.
He was replaced in the match by John Morrison, but it was Riddle who ended up getting the win and the title.
Morrison had to be added so he could take the fall and Lashley could drop the title without losing for reasons that became obvious with his recent WWE Championship win.
So, the original plans seemingly had Riddle taking the fall to Keith Lee, but WWE was forced to change it up.
