Sheamus has commented on the controversial finish of the Intercontinental Championship match on the October 7 edition of SmackDown.
Towards the end of the bout, Sheamus locked in his Cloverleaf submission on GUNTHER. Many initially thought the Intercontinental Championship had changed hands, after GUNTHER tapped the mat twice, but the official didn’t call the match, as GUNTHER reached the ropes before tapping the mat three times for the submission.
The match ultimately ended after GUNTHER struck Sheamus with a shillelagh behind the ref’s back.
Believing he was screwed out of the title win, Sheamus took to Twitter to note:
Guntapper. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #screwjob
Sheamus had previously challenged for the Intercontinental Title at Clash At The Castle, but was ultimately unsuccessful.
The Celtic Warrior is one Intercontinental Championship away from becoming an official WWE Grand Slam Champion, following his previous WWE, US and Tag Team title reigns.
At Extreme Rules, the Sheamus, Butch and Ridge Holland of the Brawling Brutes will face off against GUNTHER, Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser of Imperium in a good old fashioned Donnybrook match.
