Swerve Strickland Original AEW Plans After Full Gear Texas Death Match Revealed

Swerve Strickland Original AEW Plans After Full Gear Texas Death Match Revealed AEW

Details have emerged on the original plans for Swerve Strickland following his Texas Death Match victory at AEW Full Gear 2023.

Strickland is currently one of the hottest stars in AEW, partly thanks to his intriguing rivalry with former AEW World Champion Hangman Page.

The duo most recently faced off at Full Gear, where Strickland defeated Page in a violent Death Match which had the wrestling world talking.

Since November 18, Strickland has competed in the AEW Continental Classic, coming up short in Wednesday’s (December 27) semi-final threeway bout.

Strickland is now slated to compete at the Worlds End Zero Hour pre-show, against his former tag-team partner Keith Lee.

Fightful Select has revealed that the original plan was for Swerve and Hangman to continue their AEW feud following Full Gear.

It was noted that while the duo would be building towards another match, the Strickland vs Page rematch wasn’t going to take place at Worlds End.

Fightful noted that an ‘obvious pivot’ was made following the duo’s Full Gear match, with the idea then put forward to build to the Strickland vs Lee match by also integrating Shane Taylor and ROH.

Strickland and Lee haven’t faced off in singles action since their split in December, but were notably paired together in the Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament earlier this year.
