Swerve Strickland has commented on his and Keith Lee’s paths to AEW, explaining why Lee has a big chip on his shoulder.
Both Strickland and Lee notably wrestled for WWE prior to their AEW debuts. Following their releases in November 2021, Lee joined AEW this February, and the former ‘Isaiah Scott’ signed with the company ahead of the March 6 Revolution pay-per-view.
Speaking on The Sessions With Renee Paquette, Strickland stated that Keith Lee was promised the world in WWE. Commenting on their ‘Swerve in our Glory’ tag-team, Strickland said:
“Me and Keith, we literally tagged on the indies before he got signed to WWE, and that was like 2017. He is someone who also has just as big of a chip on his shoulder as me because he was promised the world, and unfortunately for him, he got sick too, and it wasn’t an easy just have some Robitussin and get up and go, no, he was like facing death.
“He was out of commission for a while, you know? So, I feel like he has a chip on his shoulder for his career and for personal reasons with his life, as well.”
The duo went on to win the AEW Tag Team Championship in July, before dropping the gold to The Acclaimed at Dynamite: Grand Slam on September 21.
