An interview with The Young Bucks conducted by Chris Van Vliet has given some interesting insight into the potential CM Punk joining AEW.
Punk’s name has been rumoured to be involved with the group since back at AEW predecessor All In, largely due to it taking place in Punk’s home town of Chicago.
When Punk appeared at the first Starrcast event to sign autographs it added fuel to the fire that he was going to make an appearance, but it never happened.
The rumours sparked up again prior to Double Or Nothing, despite Punk stating that he would not be there and having previously declared that he was retired from wrestling.
Those rumours intensified when AEW President Tony Khan spoke about big of a Punk fan he was and how he would love to have him in the company, a sentiment echoed recently by Cody Rhodes.
The Bucks have now likely added further fuel to that fire with the admission that they would love to have him in AEW and they speak to him about it all the time:
Nick Jackson: We’ll be honest: Of course we would love him to come to our company. At this time, I just don’t think he wants to.
Matt Jackson: “When he wants to come back to wrestling, it’ll be his decision.”
Nick Jackson: “Matt talks to him all the time about it but the timing is not right, I guess.”
Matt Jackson: “Professional wrestling is the most demanding thing in the world. You can’t just find yourself back in it one day and be like ‘Okay, I guess I’m doing this again.’ You really have to want to do it and that’s up to him.”
So, CM PUNK TO AEW CONFIRMED then . . . Not quite, but it appears that the door very much remains open.
