Last night on Friday Night SmackDown, Big E defeated The Miz and Jey Uso in a triple threat match that main evented the show to capture the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
As a result of Big E’s win, New Day have now won the SmackDown Tag Team Championships a staggering eight times, a very impressive feat.
Also last night during SmackDown, the hooded hacker that uncovered the truth behind the Mandy Rose and Otis storyline was shown in a vignette which also featured pictures of SmackDown’s tag teams.
The vignette flashed the words “the truth will be heard”, and many people have taken this to suggest that WWE are going to split up one of their tag teams on SmackDown relatively soon, but who would it be?
While it has not been reported that WWE is considering breaking New Day up right now, some have speculated that the vignettes of the hacker might be leading to the popular faction going their separate ways.
Wrestling News has noted that throughout the years there has been a backstage push within WWE to split the group up. Perhaps backstage higher-ups have finally gotten their way and the group will be breaking up:
“It is interesting that The New Day was shown because for years there have been pitches made by writers to have them turn heel or to have them split up. Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have been against splitting up the team.”
It is important to note that New Day have publicly spoken about their desire to stay together as a group and not break up as pretty much every single faction in WWE has in some capacity.
