Tony Khan ‘Open’ To Having Current Champion Appear On AEW TV AEW

AEW and ROH President Tony Khan says he is open to having current ROH Women’s World Champion Athena appear on AEW TV.

At ROH Final Battle 2022, Athena defeated Mercedes Martinez to win the RON Women’s World Championship.

“The Fallen Goddess” is now the longest reigning champion in the title’s history and has put on a litany of memorable matches against the likes of Willow Nightingale, Kiera Hogan and Skye Blue.

Despite her success on ROH TV, Athena has barely been seen on AEW programming. She last appeared on the AEW WrestleDream Zero Hour pre-show.

During the ROH Final Battle 2023 media call (via Fightful), Tony Khan was asked about Athena appearing on AEW programming. He answered:

“I’m certainly open to Athena appearing in AEW and other places. I think it’s really great to have somebody who is a great ambassador for the company like Athena.”

“One thing that has been consistent and great about ROH is that Athena has been very much a part of that show and focused on that show.”

“Her work has been one of the strongest things about the show. If Athena is focused on ROH and AEW, that’s great too.”

“With Billie Starkz, you have a great challenger that would be a great champion for ROH, but also somebody people would be excited to see in AEW.”

“Both Billie and Athena offer something to any wrestling company. In reflecting on the year in 2023, I believe Athena’s work on ROH was quite possibly, likely, the strongest and most consistent thing throughout the year and it’s been really nice having that anchor.”

Elsewhere during the media call, Tony Khan addressed the reports that he had talks with The CW Network about bringing ROH to the channel, which you can read here.
