Backstage Details On Tony Khan Reaction To CM Punk WWE Return AEW

AEW CEO Tony Khan’s reaction to CM Punk’s WWE return at this past weekend’s Survivor Series event has been revealed.

CM Punk made his return to WWE after nine years away at the climax of the Survivor Series: WarGames event this past weekend.

Punk’s return came after he was terminated from AEW on September 2 following the investigation into the backstage incident at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium.

Punk’s return took place head to head with AEW Collision and Rampage, which saw Wheeler Yuta defeat Katsuyori Shibata to become the new ROH Pure Champion.

Yuta defeated Shibata due to Shibata needing to imminently return to Japan, which is why the change could not take place at ROH Final Battle next month.

In an update from Fightful Select (subscription required) on the backstage reaction in AEW, Tony Khan was said to be more concerned about losing Shibata than Punk’s WWE return on Saturday night.

In regards to those within AEW, the majority of reactions were said to have been from people asking how the reaction was within WWE.

The WWE side is also said to have been more tepid than originally expected, as was the case when Punk returned to AEW for Collision in June.

There had been people claiming that they didn’t want to work with him in both WWE and AEW, and said they would consider leaving, but no release requests have been made from either AEW or WWE.
