Last night, a chaotic segment kicked off SmackDown which saw Jeff Hardy arrested for a hit-and-run on fellow SmackDown star Elias. Despite being taken into custody at the beginning of the show, Hardy managed to escape before the end of the broadcast, distracting Sheamus in his semi-final Intercontinental Championship tournament match against Daniel Bryan.
The segment has divided opinion online, with some saying it was one of the most gripping in recent memory, while others believe that it was distasteful given Hardy’s pretty recent issues with substance abuse and addiction.
Taking to Twitter, it seems like a current top AEW star and someone that knows Jeff Hardy pretty well wasn’t too keen of the storyline either, stating that they are happy to be working for Tony Khan and AEW.
In a Twitter post at the same time SmackDown was live, former WWE star and current AEW wrestler Matt Hardy revealed that he is happy to be working for Tony Khan. While he could just be sending a nice message to his current boss, some believe that Hardy was expressing his unhappiness at the Jeff Hardy storyline that was playing out on SmackDown at the same time:
Just to reiterate..
I’m happy to be working at @AEWrestling for @TonyKhan on Wednesdays.

Hardy’s wife Reby Sky seemingly shared in Matt’s sentiment, tweeting at the same time of SmackDown that she was “throwing [her] TV out”. Of course, this may have been about something else, but it seems like it could have been in response to WWE’s controversial Jeff Hardy storyline.
I’m throwing my TV out.

On this week’s AEW Dynamite, Matt Hardy teamed with The Young Bucks to take on Joey Janela and Private Party, after the match former WWE team The Revival (now FTR), made their highly anticipated debuts for the promotion.
