Update On If Drake Maverick Is Still Being Released By WWE

Drake Maverick was one of the many people who lost their jobs with WWE last week. He most notably posted an emotional video on Twitter immediately afterward, garnering sympathy from legions of WWE fans.

His release is a more interesting one than most. He is still competing in the NXT Cruiserweight Championship tournament and his reaction video appears to be fueling his performance in these matches. This has led to some fans questioning if the release itself was kayfabe or if he is being brought back.

According to PWInsider, Maverick was really released and has not been re-signed at this time. They noted that because Maverick is still technically with the promotion until his 90-day no-compete clause ends, he is being utilized. After seeing the reaction his video got from fans, they chose to tie it into his storyline.

It appears unlikely that Maverick will be brought back to the company at this time. However, it has been rumoured that WWE could be bringing back Sarah Logan, so it is not impossible. Maverick lost his first tournament match on this week’s NXT to Jake Atlas.
