Will Faces Rule WWE WrestleMania?

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer is speculating about the potential finishes of the matches. Since there aren’t going to be any fans in attendance, WWE won’t be able to live on the atmosphere often part of the lore of WrestleManias in the past.

Supposedly, they are going to be giving up around 17 million dollars in merchandise and ticket sales.  While Meltzer isn’t sure why they are going forward with the show, it seems the name of the game is to just do the best you can under the circumstances.

As they say, the show must go on. So, with the theme being the doing the best to try to make viewing audiences happy, what can we expect over the weekend?

According to Meltzer, he’s expecting it to try to be a feel-good show.  If that’s the case, then we could be in store for a lot of babyfaces going over.

Meltzer says:

“Even if you can’t deliver on atmosphere, you can on endings and stories.”

So, what does that mean for the card? Look at the headlining matches:

  • Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre
  • Edge vs. Randy Orton
  • Goldberg vs. ??? [Rumored to be Strowman]
  • Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena
  • Becky Lynch vs. Shayna Baszler
  • Charlotte vs. Rhea Ripley
  • Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins
  • Daniel Bryan vs. Sami Zayn
  • Otis vs. Dolph Ziggler

When you look at that lineup, one would think, Edge, Drew McIntyre, Otis, Becky Lynch and Daniel Bryan would be locks to win if we are supposed to get happy endings.

Where it gets interesting is Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena and Goldberg vs. Strowman. Who would the WWE fan base want to win and who does Vince see as the face?

Could we see Cena beat Bray again? Will Vince believe fans aren’t backing Goldberg? Even if the event isn’t overly interesting without fans, see how Vince works out the booking to have “happy endings” should be entertaining.
