Adrian Street Passes Away Aged 82

Adrian Street Passes Away Aged 82 WWE

Adrian Street, the archetype for flamboyant wrestlers, has passed away at the age of 82 in Wales, United Kingdom.

Renowned for his outrageous appearance and behavior in the ring, Street was an undeniable master of his craft.

‘The Sadist in Sequins’ stood in sharp contrast to the portrayals of masculinity that was a staple of wrestling in the 70s and 80s.

Coming from a mining town in Wales, Street didn’t follow in his father’s footsteps, stating:

“Too dark down there, I was born for the spotlight.”

BBC News would report that his wife, Miss Linda, said of Street that he was:

“The kindest, most loving man you could ever meet.”

He would leave his home behind and run away to London where, as a teenager, he would debut as Kid Tarzan Jonathan in August 1957.

That character wouldn’t last long, with Street going on to refine his “Exotic” Adrian Street persona, complete with outrageous ring attire and an effeminate personality.

Street’s career would take him all over the world and it would be on the road where he would meet his future wife, Miss Linda who also wrestled as Blackfoot Sue.

In 2019, WWE showcased Street’s career in the documentary ‘Adrian Street: Imagine What I Could Do to You’, the trailer for which can be seen below.

Triple H spoke about Street in the run-up to NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff in August 2019, saying to Sportskeeda:

“Adrian, first of all, is one of the true legends in the business, not just in the UK or Europe but globally.

“One of the biggest names, his character his persona, his immersive adaptation and believe into what he did really took him to another level and he exemplifies the hybrid of what NXT is today, there’s a lot of old-school European British however you want to refer to it in there.”

In 2019, the documentary of his life ‘You May Be Pretty, But I Am Beautiful: The Adrian Street Story’ premiered in Brynmawr, his hometown.

As noted by BBC News, the biopic examined how Street had transcended the mere “man in tights” image to become a cultural icon, his garish outfits arguably even facilitating the arrival of glam rock in the UK.

Street survived cancer in 2001 but would go on to have other health issues.

He had recently undergone brain surgery and passed away at the age of 82 on Monday July 31, 2023, at Cwmbran’s Grange University Hospital.

We sends our thoughts and condolences to Adrian Street’s family, friends, and everyone affected by his passing.
