WWE Announces New Raw Commentary Team

It was reported last week that following WrestleMania 37, the RAW commentary team would have a new look, with Tom Phillips leaving his role as the main play-by-play commentator.

Phillips was removed from WrestleMania commentary due to COVID protocols, and will be moving to 205 Live and will “oversee special projects for WWE’s programming on Peacock and at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.”

He will be replaced by Adnan Virk, who worked for ESPN between 2010 and 2019, before he was sacked for allegedly leaking information to the media.

Virk spoke to the Athletic about what becoming a WWE commentator means to him.

“I’m elated to be joining the premier sports-entertainment company in my new role with WWE. As a kid who grew up idolizing WWE Hall of Famers like Bret Hart and Ric Flair, the opportunity to call modern legends like Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, Charlotte Flair and so many others alongside Corey Graves and Byron Saxton is truly humbling.”

Samoa Joe will also be leaving his role as colour commentator, which could mean he’s making an in-ring return in the near future.

The full team will now be Adnan Virk, with Corey Graves and Byron Saxton providing colour commentary.
