Top WWE Star Initially Doubted Controversial Creative Decision WWE

Bianca Belair had addressed her doubts over the creative decision to have her and Becky Lynch face each other at SummerSlam in 2021.

Becky Lynch would make her return at the August 2021 event with Lynch scoring the pin becoming WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion.

The match would be over in under thirty seconds and was slotted between The Uso vs The Mysterios for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships and Drew McIntyre versus Jinder Mahal.

Speaking of her feelings at the time to the Daily Mail, Belair revealed:

“Becky and I, we didn’t start on the best of terms, going all the way back to SummerSlam, but respect builds and got develop friendships along the way.”

When it came to the creative direction, Belair went on to say:

“I will say initially it was hard. Like, why is this happening, did I do something wrong? John Cena was there that night and he shared some words with me and helped me see the bigger picture. His words will always stick with me.

“I was thinking about 26 seconds SummerSlam the other day, and I got to main event WrestleMania. That did a lot for my career, but the 26 seconds did just as much and in the long run it really worked out.

“I’m so proud of the work Becky and I did. A full year storyline that we brought full circle and she advocated and worked for that. It really worked out for me.”

Lynch’s return came after an absence of fifteen months due to her pregnancy which had also led to her relinquishing the Raw Women’s Championship in May 2020.

Belair would go on to have a record-setting 420 day reign as WWE Raw Womens Champion, defeating Lynch at WrestleMania 38 in April 2022 and holding the championship until her loss to Asuka at Night of Champions in May 2023.

Becky Lynch has recently discussed the injury she suffered taking a Glam Slam from Belair at SummerSlam in 2022.

Bianca Belair recently renewed her wedding vows to fellow WWE star Montez Ford.
