WWE’s Booking Philosophy On Women’s Tag Titles Revealed? WWE

WWE’s booking philosophy surrounding the Women’s Tag Team Championship has potentially been revealed.

The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship has had an eventful history, with several backstage incidents factoring into onscreen booking.

One of the more recent examples of this happening was when Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out on the company in May 2022, so were stripped of the titles, before a tournament was held for the vacant gold in August 2022.

Speaking on the Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, WWE Senior Vice President of Live Events ‘Road Dogg’ Brian James explained what WWE does to make sure the women’s titles are elevated:

“Even now, people go, ‘Oh, they don’t have enough depth in the women’s division to have tag titles,’ so we gotta figure out first how to properly tell the two titles, both Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships that is, and also the Tag title story, and the Tag title story you’re gonna have to have some freedom like you’re doing with The Usos, I believe.

“It’s an option, you don’t have to have it, but an option is to kind of use the same template, and whoever they are, kind of go to both shows and work.”

Dakota Kai & IYO SKY of Damage CTRL currently hold the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, winning the gold from Alexa Bliss & Asuka at Crown Jewel in November 2022.

The NXT women’s tag title notably changed hands at the February 4 Vengeance Day special.
