WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler is reportedly no longer with WWE, with the wrestling veteran’s contract expiring.
Per Mike Johnson of PWInsider, multiple sources have confirmed that Jerry Lawler is no longer with WWE.
The report noted that WWE “quietly declined” to renew the 74 year-old’s broadcast contract. Sources close to the matter reportedly confirmed that Lawler’s contract expired at the “onset of 2024”.
In an update, PWInsider noted that a WWE source reached out to them after publication to state that Lawler would still be under a Legends deal with the promotion, so his 31 year relationship with the company isn’t over, as was first indicated.
Essentially, Lawler will no longer be a part of the WWE broadcast team now his full-time contract has expired, but WWE could still use him for sporadic appearances similar to how other legends are used.
Lawler made his WWE (WWF) debut in as an announcer on Superstars in December 1992. He was already a wrestling veteran by this point, as he had been wrestling since the year 1970.
Lawler made a cameo appearance on WWE television in a video to help induct Andy Kaufman into the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame class, as well as him making picks for the Iron Survivor Match qualifiers in NXT back in November.
Jerry Lawler notably suffered a stroke back in February 2023, which had an effect on his speech among other difficulties.
The wrestling legend recently provided a positive update on his condition, which you can read more about right here.
We will continue to provide updates on Jerry Lawler’s health and WWE status as they become available.
