WWE Greatest Royal Rumble Title Match CONFIRMED

WWE Greatest Royal Rumble Title Match CONFIRMED

On last night’s episode of 205 Live, a show-long five-man gauntlet match was held to decide who would face WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander at WWE Greatest Royal Rumble this Friday.

Initially, Buddy Murphy was set to take on Alexander, but last week failed to make the 205 pound weight limit required to participate in WWE‘s cruiserweight division.

The match started off with the first ever WWE Cruiserweight Champion (in its current form) TJP taking on the man who Alexander beat on the WrestleMania 34 Kickoff for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, Mustafa Ali.

Ali picked up the victory after a grueling first round, and his next opponent was the ‘University City Stretcher’, Drew Gulak.

After another hard-fought contest, the referee deemed Ali unable to continue and Gulak advanced.

This didn’t stop Gulak from applying the Dragon Sleeper to a defenseless Ali. Luckily the ‘Heart of 205 Live‘ was saved by the next entrant, and Gulak’s former-best-friend-turned-bitter-enemy, the ‘Premier Athlete’ Tony Nese.

Nese had the upper hand for most of this one, due to the punishment already sustained by Gulak throughout his round with Ali.

Eventually though, Gulak did make Nese tap out with the Dragon Sleeper. This interestingly led to the babyface, Nese, being mocked by “you tapped out” chants from the crowd.

Kalisto was the final member of the gauntlet, and after many a “good lucha thing”, countered a Dragon Sleeper from Gulak into the Salida Del Sol for the victory and the opportunity to become the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion in two days time.

The Lucha House Party came to celebrate, as did Alexander who congratulated Kalisto from the stage, setting up a respectful contest between the two in Jeddah.

The WWE Greatest Royal Rumble Kickoff Show will air live on the WWE Network, live at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT/4 p.m. GMT, with the main show starting an hour later. It will also be available via other pay-per-view services such as Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.
