Current WWE Champion Reveals Why He Was ‘Apprehensive’ About Main Roster WWE

A current WWE champion has revealed why he was ‘apprehensive’ about joining the WWE main roster prior to his now historic title reign.

Typically one may hear WWE stars discussing how desperately they sought to join the WWE main roster however that was not the case for one current champion.

Current Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER opened up about how a move to the main roster in WWE felt like it may not work out.

Speaking to Jeff Snyder, GUNTHER described why he originally didn’t see himself fitting in on the main roster in WWE.

GUNTHER said:

“I just always looked at the main roster as something I don’t see myself fitting in, in what I do. My approach was always like ‘I can do what I can do. That’s what I can offer’, and you either take that or you don’t want it. I never wanted to change for anyone. Because I really believed in what I do and how I carry myself. That’s the right way for me to go. So I was always very apprehensive towards the step. I wanted to wait things out a little bit.

“Especially back then, I would say there was a little bit something like a gold rush I want to call it. When WWE opened the doors to the indie wrestling market more and they signed a lot of people at the same time. I always felt like ‘Okay everybody goes that one direction maybe I should wait it out a bit and see what happens.’ Luckily enough for me, everything worked out perfectly timing-wise in my career and we ended up here.”

GUNTHER is very close to making WWE history as he is currently the second longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time.

GUNTHER needs to maintain his IC title past September 7, 2023 in order to break the current record by which Honky Tonk Man held the belt for an official count of 453 days.

However according to the Honky Tonk Man himself, his reign is being recalled inaccurately! Click here to read more about what the former WWE star has to say about being shorted by a day.
