Vince McMahon officially retired from WWE back in July, when an article from the Wall Street Journal lobbied allegations of over $12 million in ‘hush money’ payments being made by McMahon to multiple former female employees.
McMahon wasn’t the only one accused in the article, also naming former WWE executive vice president of talent relations, John Laurinaitis, who was relieved of his duties in WWE weeks before McMahon eventually stepped aside.
As well as being the EVP of talent relations, Laurinaitis acted as the Raw general manager from 2011 until 2012. During this time, Laurinaitis ended up taking control of both Raw and SmackDown, when his team defeated SmackDown general manager Teddy Long’s team at WrestleMania 28.
Long recently spoke to Nick Hausman of Wrestling Inc, where he spoke about Laurinaitis no longer being a part of the company. Teddy Long said that he believes what happened to Laurinaitis was ‘karma’.
He said:
“Well I think with John Laurinaitis, it’s karma. Karma will come back to get you. Laurinaitis was never a big fan of mine. He always laughed and grinned in my face, but he hated my guts. So I’m just saying, and I knew that he probably thought I didn’t know it because he used to come and try to bulls**t me with, ‘Well, hey, Teddy, so glad you could make it. Man, we were thinking about you.’ You ain’t thinking about me. You know what I mean? Jesus Christ. But anyway, like I said, I learned how to play the game. So you go along with the bulls**t and that’s how you keep your job and survive another day.”
Teddy Long continued on, noting that he is now ‘really happy’ that the current WWE roster don’t have to ‘deal with Laurinaitis’ bulls**t’ anymore.
He said:
“Yes I am, I’m really happy about that. Because, I mean, people shouldn’t have to do that to keep a job. If you’re out there doing your job, then you should be awarded for doing your job. Some guy that walk up to you and maybe give you a bump in paycheck or raising your paycheck or put the belt on you and now you’re the big star. But all that’s bribe.”
Teddy Long remains the longest tenured general manager in WWE history, with his services being honored with an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2017.
