Ever since the mass WWE releases two months ago, fans have been campaigning online for the re-hiring of Drake Maverick. Maverick has been on TV pretty much ever since his release as WWE is legally able to use him until his 90-day non-compete is over.
Tonight on NXT TV, Maverick will challenge El Hijo Del Fantsama to become the interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion. This comes after Maverick defeated KUSHIDA and Jake Atlas in an excellent three-way match on last week’s show to win his group.
Many fans expect Maverick to win the title tonight and stay with the company, and this sentiment is shared by Dave Meltzer who had the following to say on the Wrestling Observer Radio:
“If [Maverick] is really leaving he shouldn’t beat anyone on the way out. That doesn’t even make sense. So I can’t imagine them not keeping him. I mean it just doesn’t make sense at all.”
The sentiment was seemingly corroborated by Bryan Alvarez, who said on Wrestling Observer Live that he is of the belief that Drake Maverick has been re-hired by WWE and will be staying with the company:
“I do now know the situation with Drake Maverick, I don’t wanna say too much, but I will tell you for various reasons I think this guy was re-hired. We’ll have to wait to know for sure.”
Make sure you stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com, as we will have live coverage of what is shaping up to be a jam-packed episode of NXT tonight, the final show before TakeOver: In Your House this weekend.
