WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles’ son Avery Styles is set to make his in-ring debut on June 26 with his father in his corner.

Back in January, the legendary career of AJ Styles came to an end at the Royal Rumble event in Riyadh, when AJ lost his final match to Gunther on the show.

The Double-Edged Sword Of Second Generation Wrestlers

With AJ Styles’s son set to begin his wrestling journey using his father’s surname, he becomes the latest in a very long line of second generation wrestlers looking to step out from their father’s shadow.

Being a second generation wrestler has it’s pros and cons, with the familiar name bringing more spotlight onto that wrestler’s work, with names such as Charlotte Flair, Dominik Mysterio and Cody Rhodes among recent examples of second generation talents getting a foot in the door with WWE early into their career.

However, second generation stars, especially those that continue to use their family name, comes with a setback of added pressure on that wrestler being able to live up to the expectations set by their parents.

Recent second generation stars in WWE such as Bron Breakker, Lexis King and Charlie Dempsey are not using the names of their respective parents, which can help the wrestler make a name off their own work, making it easier to shy away from direct comparisons to those that came before them.
